50 Things To Do With Chevre

Let’s Play Matchmaker. Wine and Beer Pairings for Goat Cheese.

A great goat cheese can only get better when enjoyed with the perfect glass of wine or beer. Here then are some of Laura Werlin’s cheese and wine pairing suggestions from her book “The All American Cheese and Wine Book.” Use them as guidelines and try to be flexible. Goats can be stubborn. Wine and Goat Cheese

  1. Fresh goat cheese — Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon or Pinot Gris
  2. Fromage blanc — Pinot Gris
  3. Slightly aged goat cheeses — Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, Pinot Noir, light-bodied Merlot, light-to-medium-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon

Beer and Goat Cheese

Selecting the right beer is a relaxed process. In general, when you find a brew you enjoy pairing with our cheese, you should stick with it. However, we’ve found that goat cheese plays best with wheat beer. No kidding. Weihenstephan Hefe-Weizen, Schneider Hefe-Weizen and UFO Hefeweizen are all suitable complements to our chevres. And stronger goat cheeses can be tamed with full-bodied beers.
